WHEN HEROES FLEW: THE ROOF OF THE WORLD has won yet another award. On September 23 in Seattle, Washington, the book was announced as the winner of the 2023 Nancy Pearl Award for genre fiction.

WHEN HEROES FLEW: THE ROOF OF THE WORLD has been awarded a Gold Medal, Buzz’s third, by the Military Writers Society of America (MWSA). Buzz was doubly honored when he was also given the 2023 MWSA Founder’s Award, the society’s most prestigious accolade, at the organization’s annual meeting in New London, Connecticut, on September 16. 2023.

WHEN HEROES FLEW: THE ROOF OF THE WORLD has received even more recognition, being named a finalist in the 2023 Nancy Pearl Award for Published Authors (genre fiction) competition. Winners will be announced at the annual meeting of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association in Seattle, Washington, on September 23.

The Military Writers Society of America (MWSA) has notified Buzz that he has been selected as a finalist for MWSA’s 2023 Writer of the Year Award and as a finalist for the 2023 Founders Award, the society’s highest honor. Winners will be announced at MWSA’s annual meeting in New London, Connecticut, on September 16.

WHEN HEROES FLEW: THE ROOF OF THE WORLD has been selected as a finalist by the Military Writers Society of America (MWSA) in its 2023 competition. The novel will be awarded either a bronze, silver, or gold medal September 16 at MWSA’s annual meeting in New London, Connecticut.

Buzz has signed a contract to produce his fifth WWII historical fiction thriller with Severn River Publishing. The working title of the novel is WHEN HEROES FLEW: WHERE THE DAWN COMES UP LIKE THUNDER. The publishing date is targeted for 2025.

WHEN HEROES FLEW: THE SHANGRI-LA RAIDERS was awarded a Gold Medal, Buzz’s second, by the Military Writers Society of America at its annual conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, in August 2022.

Buzz has signed a contract with Severn River Publishing for his fourth WWII historical fiction work, DOWN A DARK ROAD. Though not strictly part of the WHEN HEROES FLEW series, it will be in the same vein. Based on a true story, it will carry readers into the heart of darkness that an American patrol stumbled upon near the end of the war in Austria. DOWN A DARK ROAD is scheduled to be published in May 2023,

When Heroes Flew:The Roof of the World (whose working title was Where the Dawn Comes Up Like Thunder), the third in the series of the award-winning When Heroes Flew series, will be released on June 14,2022, although Severn River Publishing has indicated the date may be moved up.

Buzz has signed a contract for his eighth novel and third in the When Heroes Flew series, When Heroes Flew: Where the Dawn Comes Up Like Thunder (working title) with Severn River Publishing.  The novel will embed you in the exciting and extremely dangerous world of WWII “Hump” pilots, the men who flew the treacherous resupply route from India to China over the southern reaches of the Himalaya Mountains.  The book will be published in 2022.

When Heroes Flew: The Shangri-La Raiders, Buzz’s seventh novel and second in the When Heroes Flew series, will be released on July 13, 2021.  The book is a stirring drama set against the legendary Jimmy Doolittle Raid on Japan in April 1942.

When Heroes Flew, Buzz’s sixth novel, was awarded a Gold Medal by the Military Writers Society of America (September 2020).

Buzz has signed a contract for his sixth novel, When Heroes Flew (nee Oregon Grinder), with Severn River Publishing. It’s a tale that’s completely different from anything he’s written previously.  Prepare yourself to ride along in the cockpit of an American WWII B-24 bomber, Oregon Grinder, as it thunders toward Ploesti, Romania, from Benghazi, Libya, on a legendary raid on Nazi petroleum facilities.  You’ll become enmeshed in the lives of Oregon Grinders young Army Air Force pilot, a determined Luftwaffe fighter pilot, and an adventurous aviatrix from the Women’s Auxiliary Flying Squadron (WAFS).  In the wake of the raid, their lives collide in a life and death struggle over the Ionian Sea.

Cascadia was the 2018 EPIC (Electronic Publishing Industry Coalition) eBook Award winner in the suspense/thriller category.  This made Buzz a three-time winner of the “Eppie” award.  His previous two winners were Blizzard and Plague.

Buzz was interviewed on The Doug Dahlgren Show, ArtistFirst Radio Network, on May 12, 2017.  Cascadia, Buzz’s most recent novel (July 2016) was featured.  You can listen to the show here.

Blizzard warning!  Buzz’s fourth novel and the third in his “weather thriller” trilogy, Blizzard, was released in February 2015.

Supercell was the 2015 EPIC (Electronic Publishing Industry Coalition) eBook Award award winner in the suspense/thriller category. This marked the second time one of Buzz’s thrillers took the prize.  His second novel, Plague, was the 2014 winner.

Buzz was a featured author in the November/December 2014 issue of Southern Writers Magazine.

Eyewall, Buzz’s debut novel, became an Amazon Kindle number-one best seller in 2011.
