Ya just never know
I have a rather bizarre story to tell.
I wrote a novel, my second effort, in 2002 called THE OLDUVAI CONSPIRACY. I can look back now and say it wasn’t very good. Needless to say, it never sold. I tossed the manuscript into a drawer and forgot about it–wrote it off as part of my learning process, a step on the road to honing my craft.
Last week, I got an email from an individual with Hollywood connections who had looked at the manuscript a half dozen years ago with the thought of trying to write a movie script around it. At the time, nothing came of it. I forgot all about it.
But now, out of the blue, comes this email from the guy saying he’d like to take another shot at it. That he’d always liked the story and the action scenes and now is fired up about writing a screenplay and pitching it to Hollywood. He says he sees Olduvai as sort of a “Bourne Identity” or “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Wow.
Anyhow, I green-flagged the deal he offered and am looking forward to being rich and famous. (Please don’t believe that. I don’t.) But I am excited to be part of the process of developing a screenplay and plan on learning as much as I can about it.
In the meantime, my search for a champion for EYEWALL plods on. I’ve got one partial out, and, well, as the above tale illustrates, ya just never know.
